Open Your Hand

My instinct is to hold tightly with closed fists to what I call mine.  I can be selfish, guarding my possessions, my heart, my thoughts, my family.  What's mine is mine.  I'm not letting go.

But not the LORD.

"You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing."                                                                              ~Psalm 145:16

The Owner of the cattle on a thousand hills lives with an open hand, open door, open heart.  He gives generously . . . not just satisfying needs but desires.  Of every living thing.

This Creator-Owner wants me to live as His Son.  The Son with the hands that opened wide to receive the nails and satisfied our most dire need:  Our need for forgiveness . . . forgiveness for things such as selfishness and cowardice and greed.  So God asks me to bring the sacrifice of lifted, open hands.

I'm praying and prying back my fingers and trying, one hand at a time.  And as I do, I'm discovering within me are some places that are being satisfied.

Because when we offer Him our open hands, He fills them with good things (Psalm 103:5).

Great Insight...It could be also that God wants us to give up the things that we thought to be good enough so that He can give us His BEST! Sometimes, we're afraid to give up something that God requires to us but what we don't know is that He intends to give you way better than what you have loose if you choose to obey His will beyond the things that you hold on to. Just like when God required Isaac to Abraham....

That little frog is so precious. It is ages since I have seen one...yet we were always having baby ones when I was young. It is so fragile yet it is at peace....as are we in His hands of love.

Love the picture and I can so relate to holding on too tight. Just this morning He reminded me about letting some things go. It seems a few of us had hands on the mind this Wednesday.

Blessings,
Wanda

Prying along with you...what a vivid image that is for me...

Blessings GlowinGirl... I just came from Wanda's on Hands also and God certainly seems to be speaking! I love this verse and the thought of OPEN HAND and our open hearts.

Your precious words are so beautiful!
I will remember this when I am stubborn in opening my hand! I too must admit that sometimes He has to pry them open on some matters but most of the time...my hands are open and praising Him or reaching up to Him! Wonderful how you tied this all together! I'm letting go and letting God! I'm opening my hands to be filled with GOOD!

Thanks! EnJOY a great WFW day!

I liked the photo. It illustrated your thoughts so well. I guess we all try to hold on to things and people too tightly. It's good to hear that you have discovered opening your hands has brought His blessings. That will make us all a little less reluctant to open ours as well.

Blessings,
Janis

Inspiring... so true too. Don't we cling? God is generous with us, and long-suffering. Why aren't we?

THAT is another marvellous photo... yours?

Beautiful! Is that one of your cutie kids holding a frog? Your words always touch my soul...Do you know the song "In Your Hands" by Christy Nockels? It could be the theme song for this post...

Your writing never ceases to amaze me, girl...

Awesome Post. I talked about God holding us in HIS hands in my post. So thankful that HE holds us in HIS open hands and HE doesn't tend to squeeze HIS hands like we do. Loved your illustration!

Thanks for your post. I was searching blogs for the phrase "open hands open heart" because I have been reflecting on the relationship between giving and receiving -- as they are so connected. The images of the Father giving his Son and of Christ holding on to nothing are quite profound. Thank you!

Back again today to this spot of beauty. Thank you for stopping by this afternoon. We have a lot in common as to what brings us peace. And they're all created by Him.

Blessings today,
Janis

I can so relate to the tight fists...but our hearts can never truly be opened to love until our hands outstretch to others...

Beautiful post, GlowinGirl!
