Get Closer Up

The Thinker is growing up.  It's difficult to believe we're wrapping up his fourth grade year.  He recently finished a devotional book, Starting Strong, and we were discussing it.  I asked him if he enjoyed it and if he saw any benefits of a written response to the Bible.

"Yeah, Mom.  It got me closer up, you know?"

"How's that?" I asked.

"Well, I thought I knew everything about Naaman, see?  And then I discovered that God used a servant girl to help him, and that was surprising.  God uses different things.  It's good because it made me really look at the Bible and see new things.  I got closer to it."

My prayer for him, for you, for me today, is that we sidle up to the Word, look a little more intently, respond a little more thoughtfully and make one more connection to God than we've done before.  Get closer to His Word.  Get closer to Him.

Get closer up.

So wonderful that your son, first of all, read a devotional, secondly, got so much out of it! I pray that he holds those truths in his heart forever!

On a different note, I promise to keep your address secret from Peta. :) I want to let you know too, that I did feed the twins to my family, I just took that morning off. Ha ha

How precious! My kiddos are still so little, but I pray every day that they will have a love for God and His word. I know it's got to be wonderful for you to see your son in God's word and learning!

Absolutely wonderful. I hope this for my children - because they are so young, I pray they will choose the "right" path and accept Jesus but I also pray that they remain faithful once they do. The self-directed learning your son is doing will allow him to "own it" and thus make it his. I love it - thanks for sharing this!

Wow! He really is a thinker, especially for a 4th grader....that's deep stuff even for us adults. I enjoyed reading the older link about having "the talk" with him....Too funny. God bless!
