The Step Director (Word-Filled Wednesdy)

I know, O LORD, that a man's life is not his own;
it is not for man to direct his steps.
Jeremiah 10:23

I have often been guilty of planning my life without consulting God.  It's a dangerous (and common) habit that I don't recommend.  But what has been laid on my heart recently is that my children's lives are not for me to plan either.  God already has a purpose mapped out for them.  While my husband and I have been entrusted to guide them, ultimately we should be pointing them to ask the LORD what His plans are for them.  Yes, this requires faith and a humble heart to listen, but it also takes a bit of the fear out.  We are accountable for how we guide them, but we don't carry the ultimate responsibility in their lives' direction.

We are currently at a crossroads in our parenting, and I'm thankful for God's faithful reminder that He is my children's Father too.  He will be guiding their steps even when I am unable to be there.  They are His to direct.

And I will pray that they follow.

Great post and you are right - this goes along exactly with my post today!!!

We are in it together girl!! Praying and raising these little precious ones up to glorify God with their lives! It's a long road but a well traveled one! Keep clinging to the truth of God's word!

What a great photo and verse!!

I'm so with you - we are at a crossroads in our parenting, too. I love that you used the word "entrusted" because our babies are not given to us - they are, indeed, entrusted.

"I have often been guilty of planning my life without consulting God." Oh honey...I laughed when I read that! I could write a book! Thank GOD that I've finally figured out that HE knows sooo much more than I! ;)

What an adorable picture...crossroads in parenting huh? I think we're always at crossroads in parenting...God must laugh at us being parents when He still clearly has to parent us...He remains...thankfully!

Wonderful post girl!

peace,
lori

So true! I keep reminding myself that He *alone* knows the future for which He is preparing my children!

Our culture puts so much emphasis on being independent, but really, Christian parenting is teaching them to transfer their dependence on you to a dependence on God.

Have a great Wednesday, GG!!

God has been so patient with me as I learned to trust Him to care for our 2 daughters, now grown with families of their own. He directs their steps (and mine) so much better than I am able to do! I love the picture with this!
Blessings,
Laurie

How I wish I were as strong in the faith as you are. I still struggle so with doing it on my own. It isn't pride per se, I just wasn't raised that way and it is still a struggle to turn to Him first. Your WW posts are always precious for me.

as usual...great post. i am notorious for trying to hold the reins of my own life. and it usually ends up a mess. apparently i'm human and screw up alot! i've learned to pray for God's guidance and to pray that His will be done. i also pray for acceptance of His will because alot of times i want to argue with God....and that never ends with me winning!

thank you for always posting things that help me keep life in perspective :)

That is something the Lord laid on my heart a few months ago to do-pray and seek His plan for our children's lives.

The answers don't come all at once but through His Word and much prayer they do come little by little!

Thank you for such a beautiful post! Your little girl is so precious! I just love seeing the way they start to walk!

One of the things I struggle with the most is consulting God before I take a big step. It's so hard for me to give him complete control. We're trying to raise WeeMan so that's not something he struggles with.

I can relate so well! But am also thankful for God's faithfulness and that His plans are always best for us. Thanks for sharing.

My verse is similar today... and it's so true. I'm still learning about planning in my own life, so I take your words to heart as I think about not only my own life, but also future children!

I love this post!

As hard as it is to give up control, it's also a blessing to know that we give our control up to someone who has more power, as well as more love. We give up our own control to have bigger blessing brought upon us!

Great post! I'm a "planner" so I often get busy making plans for myself and my children. I need to remember to consult with God about those plans!

Great point to make that even in chidrearing one should avoid planning out their futures. I'm not a parent but I understand the wisdom in pointing them like arrows toward the One who indeed has a plan. Blessings to you & your family.

It's so hard to entrust the loved ones in our lives to God. Very encouraging testimony & photo concerning it. Thanks!

I love this post, it's so true and honest. I sometimes plan my life without consulting or accepting God's plan as well. It's an easy thing to do and a hard lesson to learn. I hope that the crossroads with parenting works out smoothly!
