Sometimes my thoughts dwell in the garbage can of life. They are negative, dishonest, clouded, ugly and well . . . grouchy. And because my thoughts are living in the garbage can, my attitude and my words reek as well.
I think it was Joyce Meyer in Battlefield of the Mind who said, "Think about what you're thinking about." In other words, be aware of what's going on in your mind. Don't welcome every thought in unbidden to take up residence and trash the place.
Instead, "take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ," we're advised in 2 Corinthians 10:5. It's a great cleansing agent.
Fill up with His Word. You'll smell better to Him . . . and feel cleaner too.

This was one of the very first verses that "jumped out at me" in the bible. It made me think...hmm, maybe there is something interesting in this book. And, of course I have been hooked ever since.

I should have remembered this last night when I was in the middle of a print job and ran out of ink so had to make a special trip to OfficeMax. Then after I replaced the ink cartridge, the color was off so I had to clean the nozzles and something else which ate up a lot of ink and took me a long time to figure out how to do it. Very frustrating and not how I planned to spend my evening.
This is FANTASTIC girl!! Seriously oh my goodness...It's funny, it's not usually my words that get me in trouble it's my thoughts that BECOME my words...the grouchy ones...
Love Oscar! I've learned (and always still learning) that when I truly submit and ask the Lord to use me then I can't get "grouchy" when the plans don't go my way..or when He puts me in situations with those I'd rather not be around...

Perfect reminder of the power of both our words and thoughts.
This was one of the first verses I memorized as an adult. I like to think of it as a filter - if my thoughts don't line up with all of the criteria, I have to chunk them!
After reading one of Elizabeth George's books, I realized that, for me, so often it's the first one that gets me, "Whatever things are true ... " "What ifs" and "If onlys" are not reality, so they don't make the cut! ;)

Something we've been talking about in our house the last few days. It's too easy in the chaos of life to let unbidden thoughts wander around in me...I need to choke them out with purposeful meditation on the excellent and praiseworthy. May the Author of such dwell in our thoughts as well as our hearts.

How ironic....I have been meditating/focusing on this scripture all day, 2 Cor 10:5. Lately, I have been obsessing over some things, and this scripture has reminded me that nothing can be bigger than God.
You can't begin to imagine how touched I am to see that others have struggles similar to me.

Love your creativeness in presenting this verse and devotion. I think I need to do more thinking about what I'm thinking. I've always looked at that verse in this same way but after reading Primal by Mark Patterson, I see it also has a positive spin. We're responsible take captive even those God thoughts as well.
